After a train ride, a bus ride and a two mile hike, we made it to our villa and were able to drop off our backpacks so we could explore!
The view from our window...
The villa grounds.....
The next day, we decided to participate in several wine tours and visit the medieval town of Monteriggioni.
But first, a few rounds of cards....
First, the village of Monteriggioni. This medieval walled town is located on a natural hillock, in the Siena Province of Tuscany. It was built by the Sienese in 1213 as a front line in their wars against Florence.
Climbing on the fortress walls.......
To gain a bit of prospective of what exactly Jacob was climbing on, please see below. Yep, he was on top of the watchtower....
View towards Florence....
The entrance and exit of the city....
Next stop, wineries (I am terrible and didn't write the name of these places down, but they were incredible).....
Stop 1, a family owned farm in the Chianti region of Tuscany. The owners produced wine, balsamic vinegar and truffle oil. During the tour of the property, we were told that he produces only 200 bottles of balsamic vinegar a year. The reason for such a small number....it takes 30 years to produce!
Someone was not finished with the eating portion of our tour since he was helping all the other guest clean their plates....
Stop 2, Sant'Appiano Winery...
Finally, we returned home to find this beautiful sky after a day of exploring such picturesque countryside!
And finally, we set off to Rome. The last leg of this amazing trip!
