Mr. and Mrs. Smith

You may remember our dear friends, Matt and Jodi.  Back in April, Jacob and I helped Matt set up the proposal sight where he asked Jodi to be his wife!  Four short months later........it is my honor to present Mr. and Mrs. Smith!

Photobucket

The whole night was so much fun!  As a result, I don't have many pictures.  I did manage to pull out the camera for a few quick snaps at the end of the evening!

Matt and Jodi loving being married!

The best picture I could get of J and Joey. Clearly, this will not be sitting on anyone's mantle in the near future!

This is what happens when I ask Jacob to take a picture.

The Ranch

This past weekend, the Odom clan travelled to the foothills of the Ozark Mountains to visit Jamie, Jacob's little sister, at New Life Ranch.  Jamie has lived, worked and breathed New Life Ranch for the past two summers.

Photobucket

For those of you who are not familiar with this phenomena, NLR (as I have learned to refer to it) is a 1000 acre Christian camp for students between 3rd and 12th grade nestled in Northeast Oklahoma.

Photobucket
Since there were no campers on site during our visit, we were able to try out all the fun toys!  First up....zip line.....

Climbing, climbing, climbing...(also known as Jacob trying to convince me we should turn the climb into a race)

Photobucket

Ok say what you will, but man it is HIGH up there! I was a tad nervous once we reached the top.....

Photobucket

Please refer to the pink arrow and yellow arrows.  I will let you narrate this conversation.  Keep in mind the young lady you see in front of the rest of us was seven!

Photobucket

WE I MADE IT! (and it was so fun!)

Photobucket

Next, Jon and Jamie tried out the "Scream Line".

What is the Scream Line you ask....Well it is really a simple contraption.  It is a cord attached to a large telephone poll that is pulled by volunteers until the current screamer's body gets to the desired height which is usually determined by the volunteers.

Photobucket

Once the desired height is achieved, the volunteers let go and the screamer gets to screamin!

Photobucket
First up....Jamie!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Then, Jon....

After spending the afternoon sporting a harness and helmet,

Photobucket

the festivities began winding down.

Photobucket

All in all, it was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Thanks for letting us visit Jamie!  We look forward to next year!

Hiccups

Are pretty annoying!  And everyone you talk to has a home remedy they swear by.....spoon full of sugar, spoon full of honey, peanut butter, stand on your head, drink milk, stand on your head and drink milk at the same time, have someone scare you, stare at an object, have someone tickle you....and on and on and on.......

Well last Friday evening, our household was attacked by a case of the hiccups.  Here is how it all went down:

7:32 pm - Getting ready to go out for dinner.  Jacob gets the hiccups.

7:34 pm - He decides to try the "hold your breath for 30 seconds" method. After 10 seconds of complete silence, I come out of the bathroom to watch.

7:34 pm - His eyes roll back in his head and he proceeds to PASS OUT!

7:35 pm - He comes to, I finally realize he is serious and not kidding with me and we both begin to process what just happened.

7:35 pm - Jacob is now sporting serious carpet burn on his face!

Photobucket

This picture does not show the nastiness of the burn!  But trust me....it was pretty bad!

We NO longer practice the "hold your breath" method in our household!

Lyle Lovett and his Big Band.....

are awesome!  That is right.....I said it...they are AWESOME! This past weekend, Jacob and I went to his concert.  I have to be honest with you (and my husband if he is reading), I wasn't expecting anything great or exciting.  I mean it is Lyle Lovett?!?!? He has big hair and kind looks lost in all his pictures.  I was picturing a night with Lyle, a few guitars, a drummer and a lot of twangy songs.

BUT I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG!!!!

Lets just say by Monday at 9 am, the Odom's were the proud new owners of  three of his cds!

Photobucket

Why such a swift change in my perception of Mr. Lovett and his band?  Good question....let me explain with my top ten list!

Photobucket

1. He is funny!  I mean really funny. Like knee slappin, elbow nudgin, finger pointin funny!  That is hard to do in an auditorium full of people and successfully make all of them laugh.

2. He and all his band members wore suits to play the entire concert! Tell me the last time you went to a concert were the singers and/or band members wore more than a swaddling cloth!!!

3.  Sweet Pea Atkinson, Sir Harry Bowens and Willie Green, Jr.!  These three make up the dynamic back up vocals.  Sir Harry and Wille danced so much, I was worn out from watching them!  This picture is blurry cause they kept dancing...they didn't stop. I could not get a clear picture for the life of me!  And trust me I tried.

Photobucket

4.  Hilarious lyrics! One of the songs on his new albums is titled Farmer Brown/Chicken Reel.  The chorus goes a little something like this:

I'm gonna choke my chicken (Choke my chicken)

Choke my chicken (Choke my chicken)
Choke my chicken 'til the sun goes down

Oh and I forgot to add....the whole song is accompanied with barnyard noises!

5. Fiddles!  Yes, fiddles.  These boys could tear them up.  Made me want to learn to play one.

6. Sides stories from the band members.  Between songs, Lyle would talk to different band members telling us where they are from, when they learned to play their specific instrument and a few funny bus tales on each person.

7.  Just looking at Lyle, he looks like he has lived 62 hard years........

8. but he sounds like he is 27.........

9. yet, with the help of wikipedia I realized he is only 52!

Photobucket

 10. And finally, this man loved the stage!  He played for four hours! Who plays for that long these days.

Best concert I have attended in a long time and worth every penny for our third row seats!  Lyle....you just aquired two new fans!

Independence Day....the Texas Way!

We just returned from the annual week long Odom retreat on Lake Livingston in Point Blank, Texas.  Although I have only been apart of this vacation for three years, I learned the ropes quickly.....eat, talk, play, ski and nap.  Not a bad way to spend a holiday weekend!

So on Friday, July 2nd, we packed up the truck and headed south to the Lone Star state.....

Photobucket

I would like to take a second explain a particular relationship so you the reader can get the full appreciation of our 8 hour drive!  As most of you know, Jacob and Cody have been roommates for the past six years.  They did all the imaginable man and dog activities.  They sat on the furniture together, slept together, ate together, rode in the car together......and the list goes on.  To say the least, Cody was ALWAYS one step behind Jacob no matter where he went.

Well seven short months ago, this relationship began to "evolve".  I mean Cody's obsession with  Jacob was unhealthy.  He needed other activities and friends.........Cody (and Jacob) have been very excepting to all these family changes except for one.  Cody refuses to get out of my seat when we are riding in the car together! I mean, I don't mind sharing a seat on short rides....but NOT an 8 hour pilgrimage!

Cody is smart though! I have been monitoring his technique for a few months now and fortunately was able to documented his craftiness for all to see.

1.) He showers Jacob with love from his newly assigned seat. He makes sure to do this so I can see.

Photobucket

2.) On the opposite side (away from me), he begins to slowly creep forward.....

Photobucket

3.) Still creeping.....please take note that the left paw has successfully made it to the front seat....

Photobucket

4.) Mission completed!

Photobucket

Nine hours, five outlet mall stores, two bathroom breaks and one gas fill-up later, we were there!

Photobucket

The next seven days consisted of a lot of.....
